Toolbar installs Malware which prevents FF from closing

New to game, downloaded toolbar and it installed some 'Search Protect' malware onto my computer. No big deal for me really, but it prevents Firefox from closing properly. I close the tabs for firefox but the actual program is still running because of the malware so then I must Control-Alt-Delete to force-quit the program if I want to open it back up.

Any way to avoid getting the malware included with the Toolbar? (Google search Protect Search Conduit to find people overreacting to this spyware app)
 
I ran into this same issue when I downloaded it. I still haven't found a solution to this.
