How do you research a Barrack? You BUILD a barrack. Research is for tech to build troops and upgrade them depending on world settings, in the Smithy.

Unless you have an extreme abundance of barbs in your area with no competition I don't see why anyone would do this :S

Unless your barbs are stupidly close to you and you started with 11+ spears, I don't see why having an abundance would matter in the first 20 minutes
