As i was looking at the irc section in tribal wars wiki. I was surprised at how unorganized it was... so in this guide i will try and accomplish what they tried and failed at. I will be giving you a in dept guide on what IRC is and more.

IRC

IRC Clients:
Webclient - http://irc2go.com/webchat/?net=QuakeNet&room=tribalwars
Windows Client - http://www.mirc.com/get.html (RECOMMENDED)
Mac Client - http://limechat.net/mac/

What does IRC stand for?

Code:
IRC stands for [U][B]I[/B][/U]nternet [U][B]R[/B][/U]elay [U][B]C[/B][/U]hat, IRC has been used for many years.
It is very popular in small business's on the internet world and is used in many private servers.
How do I connect to Tribal Wars IRC? mIRC
Code:
Well first off you have two choices. Choice one, is that you can find yourself a html webclient
and talk on irc. Choice two is that you use my highly recommended irc client and use that.
____________

Ok, so now lets begin to connect to tribalwars IRC.

You will need to download mIRC, which can be found here: [URL]http://www.mirc.com/[/URL] mIRC comes with a
30 days free trial, but do not worry. The trial keeps on going, buying mIRC is more like just "donating"
to the creator.

Now that you have mIRC downloaded begin to open it up. After the program is open, hit continue. Then
and mIRC options window will open up. If the options did not open, just go to tool -> options.
Now fill out your Full Name, Email, Nickname, Alt., then uncheck invisible mode.

Alright click on the Servers category on the left side.
Click on ADD server, and you will be prompted with this window. The server
is [URL="irc://irc.quakenet.org"]irc.quakenet.org[/URL] and fill out the information as i did. Then click ADD.
[IMG]http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/5557/serverk.png[/IMG]

Now you scroll down on the IRC server list and click on the server that says "TW"
Then hit the connect button on the top left corner of mIRC window.

Ok, now wait a little and you will be connected to the server and you'll be prompted with a
mIRC favorites window. Click on ADD. Then fill out the information as seen below. And hit OK.

Alright now the in the list of channels, #tribalwars will be there. Simply click on it and hit JOIN.
If you are at this screen CONGRADULATIONS you have successfully conected to TW IRC.

Are there any rules inside IRC?
Code:
Yes, there are and here are a list of them:

[LIST]
[*]This chat is English text only
[*]There is to be no racist/abusive/slanderous chat
[*]There is to be no tribe recruiting
[*]No PMing staff without permission
[*]No inappropriate topics
[*]No posting links not related to the game
[*]No discussing bans
[*]Everyone must follow Staff's directions.
[/LIST]
A closer look at IRC:
Code:
As you can see by now, in the IRC there some accounts with a '@' or '+' next to there name.
The @ and + are all staff members and part of the Tribal Wars team. But a '@' next to there name
gives them more power in IRC. As for a '+' does not give as much power.
[IMG]http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/544/ranksj.png[/IMG]
If you were to be added to this list a simple command of !vop add <name> or !aop add <name>
And anyone without a rank is just another member of tribalwars, or staff that just hasn't been added
to the list yet.
Suggestions:
Code:
As most of you have noticed the tribalwars activity is very low. Some ways this can change is by adding a IRC section
in the forums. By adding this part in the forums, it will definetly increase the number of active users in IRC and vividly show forum
users that IRC is available in Tribal Wars. This forum section can also be used to discuss IRC, post quotes, post IRC scripts and etc.

Did i miss anything? Please tell me.

So will speed, I mean there are like thousands of players playing speed on
tribal-speed.com and infernal-wars.com and stuff, and a lot of them can
speak English, but some guys from TW who made the game can't make
one here even though I think it's obvious people WILL play on speed and
we could popularize it by maybe advertising, which TW doesn't even do..

Guys, this isn't the right place to discuss suggestions to improve the server.

Clicky!

Please post suggestions there for the team to consider, and try to stay on-topic with suggestions/comments on this guide :).

I remember I used IRC years ago, didn't know that it's still very much popular. The only issue is that it requires another client, which you need to download, install, get used to it etc.,etc.. While most of the people use skype, which may not be the best option for large amount of people, IRC is very good from that perspective.

Yep, that's right. It's an online chat, where every user nothing has to install and chat when he wants..
+ it can be moderated.

Could you update this?

You have missed off Non-Install IRC. Basically, go to the site I linked, type in a random username you wish to use, and type the channel in to the box (for .net tribalwars, this is simply "tribalwars". It is the way I use IRC.

I can update it but i would like to point out that IRC is very old and out dated...

Not really as fun as skype is and more people use skype.
