Question on Barb village support

Okay so recently a very large player went barb from inactivity. If he theoretically had some troops supporting another of his villages, would they go back or could he have like 20k troops in one village?

Because I attacked one of these barbs with a full nuke and it all died. Now I'm not sure if I want to send in my noble train in case it could be stacked?

The troops that are outside of their original village will disappear. However, keep in mind the player may have had former tribemates supporting him (who haven't withdrawn their support), others may be trying to block your conquers, or the nuke simply hit a 10k spear/10k sword build that didn't let you get a report.
