As a former number one (server 21 and 27) Evony player the answer is obvious: credit cards.

As a noobie on this forum, I want to know if there are any (more creative) tactics to winning at this game.

Rush light cavalry and then farm like a robot

Theres no need to pay for anything really though bar maybe during an op and you need to max your wall quickly or if you get bored on your first vill so want to build your last few smithy lvls quickly and start nobling the folk around you. Just read some guides, Join the rim on a world and learn your own way of play. It isn't an hard game to master
